Now this could be one of my better ideas - last time I gigged with Cassette Electrik I played the set in front of what possibly looked like a looped bit of a MASK cartoon that seems to be the default holding page for their visual rig. Not that I've got anything against MASK, you understand. Big fan.
Anyway, not having the time, equipment or flippers to do visuals myself I've long since resigned myself to just not having any of that stuff (relying on my innate "charm" and "animal magnetism" - pffff, right) but it occured to me that since there is gonna be a laptop+projector there anyway there I may as well at least have a projected backdrop.... so I cobbled together some HTML and Javascript, dug out some old photos I took in Hong Kong and Shanghai, applied some filtering and a wodge of script.aculo.us and created some moving browser based wallpaper.
Which looks like this. (Go to full screen mode for the full effect.)
Not bad for a rapidly hacked together piece o'crap, even if I do say so myself. How many other rockstars can code their own backdrop. Eh? I shall whack it on a USB stick and from now on anywhere where they have a laptop+projector I can have a backdrop. Simple!
Hopefully see ya tonight. I shall probably be blogging from soundcheck anyway on (because if there's one thing common to all soundchecks it's the endless waiting).
