A Gig.

A date for your diary - on May 21st there will be a small Looptron happening in the basement type area of The Comedy, which is a pub in the vicinity of Leicester Square.

Of course, as an enlightened being you're naturally wary about what happens in pub basements in the West End (and it's perfectly normal and correct to have these feelings) but as both your friend and therapist I urge you approach this particular event with an open mind and no fear in your heart.

(Although fresh tube of K-Y and some rubber gloves would probably be a good idea too.)

£4 with flyer. Onstage 8pm sharp thanks to evil Westminster Council curfews meaning that we can't risk running over or they kneecap everyone.

Usual DoA mixup night: Earl Grey & The Mugs (very bluesy), Venkman (dunno), Native Souls (who sound like Pearl Jam to me, which is nice) and Looptron (sort of "beep beep" noises).

Happy Dragon Killing Englisher Day, everyone! Roast beef and warm beer all round! (Although St. George is also the patron state of "Portugal, Georgia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Republic of Macedonia, as well as the region of Catalonia (Spain) and the city of Moscow" according to Wikipedia so I reckon if you want to go with lamb and vodka that's probably fine too.)

Not a huge amount to report. Well apart from actually booking one gig this morning and nearly booking another one actually booking another one just now - more details on those when I have 'em. This nice young man said kind things about one the music. I've been rained on a fair amount. Cassette Electrik have decided to start making their musics available for free which means I'm probably not going to be made a millionaire by finishing the remix I'm working on. :-)

My all time favourite thing in the whole of this morning.

What that might be? Sébastien Tellier's album Sexuality. Almost certainly the first record I've bought as a result of the Eurovision Song Contest (and the controversy surrounding that fact that beardy Frenchman Tellier's entry Divine is sung in largely in English). That said his work has rather been touted in some of music press as being worthy.

And what's so good about it? The really cheap nasty 80's synths? No. The simulated sex noises? No. The undeniably French aroma? No. The beard? No. Anything at all? Um.... not sure. But.... it's had me grinning like an idiot all morning and I'm on the second listen. It's just really strangely quirkily beautiful...

As someone who under the name LOOPtron basically managed to write an EP (plug: available here) about how pointless electronic music really is and who's songwriting technique basically involves inserting an 808 clone and some square wave synth into a loop and repeating it for as long as I think I can get away with it.... well, let's just say this XKCD comic really tickled me.

Never take it too seriously, pop kids. :-)

Artistic differences.

I've hit a wall with my remix for Cassette Electrik. Do I go for more bitcrushed synth? Or do I bring the rawk guitar? Or do I bitcrush the guitar and run it through some harmonic synthesis?
