Yep, you do, in the audio effects. I use it loads on the really
processed drum sounds... it's got a "chance" control so you can set
the probability of it triggering, plus a pitch control, pitch decay,
grid (which basically the sample length) and some other gunk to
control exactly where in the bar stuff happens.
In fact, increasingly these days I'll have a simple midi loop playing
through in operator/impulse but with various randomising midi effects
running before the instrument (the velocity one is tres useful) and
the beat slicer running afterwards with small percentages of
randomness applied to both. Stops it sounding so, er, "controlled" and
it never quite plays the same way twice, which i really like the idea
of for live work....
Oooooo, nows there's an idea... if you're flogging MP3s online I
wonder how much effort it'd be to write a "render from ableton +
convert to MP3" script on the server so that EVERY copy of the MP3 was
unique. It'd still be 95% the same but every file would have slightly
different fills, velocities on certain notes, etc....
Might have to copy this mail into a blog post. :-)
